Retiring staff and faculty feted

With 1,054 accumulated years of service to UVic, this year's faculty and staff retirees were honoured at a special dinner at the Faculty Club April 29. The longest serving of the 44 retirees are former Vic College professors Dr. Harry Dosso, with 40 years, and Dr. Harbhajan Sandhu, 37 years. Both are from the Department of Physics & Astronomy.

MC for the evening was President David Strong who thanked the retirees for their contributions over the years.

"The reputation and quality of a university comes from within," he said. "It is earned and built by its dedicated teachers, researchers and staff working towards a common purpose and, in this case, a shared goal of excellence. UVic owes you a debt of gratitude and will miss you."

Each retiree was introduced by a colleague from his or her area and received a pen and pencil set in a rosewood box engraved with the UVic crest.
