A rainy loonie lay-in

It rained more than loonies around the University fountain on Nov. 3, but members of the Engineering Students Society (ESS) didn't let steady precipitation keep them from laying down loonies for the United Way. The ingenious students simply stuck the coins on double-sided tape before laying them around the fountain. The ESS collected 2,329 loonies to lead the individual groups contributing towards the event. Camosun College collected 1,244 coins and Oak Bay High School brought 1,000 loonies. When other student groups and department collections were counted UVic raised a total of 6,672 loonies--averaging 62 cents per undergraduate student. Camosun's total represented 22 cents per student, so UVic retained Lord Loonie's trophy for another year.
