A bursary fund in memory of Courtney Walls&emdash;the UVic grad stabbed to death Dec. 12, 1997 in downtown Victoria&emdash;has been established with $10,000 raised by Walls' friends in the Victoria rugby community. Fundraising was spearheaded by Victoria lawyer Michael Holmes, friend and former teammate. The first $500 award from the bursary is expected to be granted next fall to a UVic varsity rugby player, preferably enrolled in English or writing. Walls' wife Michelle, daughter Taylor (who was born after her father's death) and his mother, Bev, presented a cheque for the bursary fund to UVic President Dr. David Strong Dec. 4. This photo of Courtney and Michelle Walls was taken during a 1997 trip to the Oregon coast.
