T-shirts bearing anti-violence messages were a poignant backdrop to this year's memorial service on campus honouring 14 young women murdered at Montreal's École Polytechnique nine years ago. Women were invited to come to the UVic sexual assault centre prior to the ceremony to pick up a T-shirt to paint, embroider or appliqué with anti-violence messages, and then bring their completed T-shirt to the ceremony as part of a "Clothesline Project." UVic Chancellor Dr. Norma Mickelson hosted the memorial, which featured students from the school of music, the Philomela women's choir and speakers Dr. Penny Codding, vice-president academic, and graduate student Patricia Vickers.
