MICHAEL WHITICAR (earth & ocean sciences) Referring to ocean sediments he and colleagues have extracted from Saanich Inlet to look at climate and natural disasters of the past 14,000 years. Whiticar is quoted in a story describing an enormous wall of water, about 100 metres high, that broke through a giant ice dam and swept over Canada's West Coast 11,000 years ago.
