Day in the life: Inba Kehoe
You wouldn’t necessarily expect to find the beginnings of a university press on the corner of a librarian’s desk. Yet the small stack of textbook-sized volumes on the desk of Inba Kehoe, the university’s copyright officer and scholarly communications/publishing librarian, hint at a bright publishing future for the University of Victoria.
Bookstore unveils new textbook sales space
The new textbook sales area in the UVic Bookstore opened for business on March 2. The new space on the ground floor of the Campus Services Building has been redesigned to be more functional, with a flex area that can expand as needed at busy times of year. “We’ve renewed and retooled to make this the most modern bookstore in Canada, with a focus on the digital delivery of course materials,” says director of campus services Jim Forbes.
UVic one of Canada's top diversity employers
UVic has been named one of Canada's Best Diversity Employers. The winners of the 2012 competition were announced Feb. 21, recognizing 50 organizations that lead the nation in creating diverse and inclusive workplaces.
Change starts here: UVic and the United Way
Thank you, UVic community! The final fundraising tally for the 2011 UVic United Way campaign came in at $271,165, with a cool $36,641 raised at on-campus events from July through December. The campaign also welcomed 62 new donors.
New fund greenlights innovative campus sustainability projects
Sometimes simple ideas have big payoffs. The first two projects to receive funding from the University of Victoria's new Revolving Sustainability Fund will save the university enough energy and water, in less than five years, to pay for themselves in reduced utility costs.

Copyright procedures to change in 2012
The University of Victoria will be opting out of the Access Copyright (AC) Interim Tariff at the end of August 2012, raising to 35 the number of universities represented by the Association of Universities and Colleges of Canada (AUCC) that have opted out. Had UVic stayed in the Agreement, the proposed tariff would have resulted in an increase in the university’s annual royalty payments to Access Copyright from $60,000 to $700,000.
United Way campaign rolling toward goal
"How many more times around Ring Road?" UVic United Way campaign committee members Charles McQuade, Sarah Smith, James Burrough, Teresa Rush and Marlene Bergstrom revved up the 2011 campaign as they pushed a hollowed-out VW Bug around Ring Road during the Bug Push, held on Sept. 16. Organized by the Engineering Students' Society, the first special event of the fall campaign brought in $2,250 in pledges while student, staff and community teams kept the Bug in motion for 12 hours straight.
United Way campaign: Change starts here
The UVic 2011 United Way campaign is officially away from the starting blocks, following the barbeque launch on Sept. 21. This year’s fundraising target of $290,000 is UVic’s most ambitious goal ever.
New office handles student policies and non-academic misconduct
A new office within the Division of Student Affairs has opened its doors to oversee policies affecting student life at UVic and resolve allegations of non-academic student misconduct.
