You did it again, UVic! Together, you propelled the UVic United Way campaign past its 2015 goal of $269,000. As of December 29, the tally of funds raised during the campaign was $273,455, all made possible by the generous contributions of donors and supporters.

When the Truth and Reconciliation Commission released its final 11-page set of recommendations, one of the commission’s overarching goals loomed so large, it seemed poised to walk right off the document.

“The idea is that all we have learned is not to become stored and dusty,” explains Commissioner Marie Wilson. “It is a call to action.”


UVic joins city trade mission to San Francisco

Industry partnerships, co-op opportunities and connections with alumni were top-of-mind issues for UVic representatives joining Victoria Mayor Lisa Helps’ “Team Victoria” delegation in late September. The 31-person, multi-stakeholder trade mission to San Francisco included BC Technology Minister Amrik Virk and representatives from UVic, VIATeC, Tourism Victoria and the Greater Victoria Development Agency.

“It’s an extremely important geographic area for the industry,” says Alumni Relations Director Terry Cockerline. “And our alumni are doing amazing things down there. We’ve reaffirmed those relationships with our alumni and have begun cultivating new ones.”

Information about new projects being launched, changes in policy, the big picture opportunities and challenges affecting UVic, progress on institutional goals, or even this week’s major campus events, orient us to campus life as much as any map does. Being aware of that kind of information—and knowing how to access it and when to share it—is a crucial, but often overlooked part of being a member of the UVic community, no matter what we do or where we work on campus.


New deans and acting deans announced

Four new academic leaders take up their posts at UVic this summer with the appointments of Dr. Patricia Marck as dean of human and social development, Dr. Susan Lewis as acting dean of fine arts, Dr. Cedric Littlewood as new acting dean of humanities and Dr. Kathryn Gillis as acting dean of science.
