Building new programs and expanding capacity in high-demand areas to meet the needs of both students and the new economy is a key role for BC postsecondary institutions, says University of Victoria President Jamie Cassels.

Cassels was speaking to an audience of 160 business leaders in Vancouver April 24 during a panel on “Institutions as Economic Enablers” that was part of the “Putting BC To Work” business forum hosted by the Business Council of BC and CKNW AM980.

UVic is launching the ONECard, a new photo identification card for all members of the UVic community, on May 1, 2014.

Offering the services of multiple cards in one, the ONECard will be the official identification card for members of the campus community. ONECard will support the functionality of current ID and food services cards, including tap-and-go payment technology at all University Food Services locations.

2014 QS subject rankings highlight UVic’s international reputation

UVic ranks among the top 200 institutions worldwide in six key academic fields, according to the 2014 QS World University Rankings by Subject released on Feb. 26. In addition to the six highlighted subject areas, the QS rankings also suggest that UVic’s rising international reputation stems from extraordinary programs across the institution. The department of English language and literature ranked in the top 100. In total, UVic was ranked as having world-class performance in 22 of the 30 subject areas QS considers.
