Consultation and survey on violence

Wed, 2012-12-05 12:10

Staff, students and faculty members are invited to take part in a survey to help the university determine how best to acknowledge gender-based violence. The survey is part of a broader consultation process that began in the spring, coordinated by the Equity and Human Rights Office. Since 1991, UVic has acknowledged the National Day of Remembrance and Action on Violence Against Women (NDRAVAW or Dec. 6) with an outdoor event on the last day of fall semester classes. The nature and focus of the event evolved over time and, in 2011, the event featured film screenings rather than an outdoor ceremony. A group of concerned campus-community members and survivors requested that the UVic administration examine the future direction of the event and the university’s overall response to gender-based violence, on and off campus. As part of this process, a confidential online survey is available at http://fluidsurveys.com/surveys/eqhr/ravaw-consultation/. Or you may meet for an in-person consultation by contacting the Equity and Human Rights Office. The deadline for responses is Dec. 15. More info: abello@uvic.ca or 250-721-8486.
