In memoriam: Dawna Brand
Dawna Brand, a senior laboratory instructor in the Department of Biology, died unexpectedly on Feb. 1 after having suffered ruptured brain aneurysms. Dawna was much loved by her students, which is exemplified by the many thank you cards and notes of appreciation from those whose lives she touched that filled her office.
in memoriam: Danielle Forster
Danielle Forster, UVic’s rare books and information services librarian, passed away suddenly on Aug. 28. One of the many projects Danielle was working on with colleagues at the time of her death was an exhibit based on WWI materials from UVic Archives & Special Collections. This exhibit, “The World of Mary’s Wedding,” which opened Oct. 24 in the Maltwood Gallery at the McPherson Library, was dedicated to the memory of Danielle.

Dr. Brian Wharf, an amazing UVic citizen and distinguished Social Work educator, died on August 11.
In memoriam: Sister Kathleen Cyr
Sister Kathleen Cyr, SSA, BSc, MA, who died on May 3 at St. Ann’s Residence in Victoria, had a wry sense of humour, but it was her warmth and kindness that everyone remembers. As a provincial leader with the Sisters of St. Ann, her association with the University of Victoria was extensive beginning with the co-founding of the School of Nursing in 1976 and most recently serving as the Founding Chair of the School of Nursing Advisory Council.

Sydney Wayne (but always “Toby”, after his childhood teddy bear) Jackman passed peacefully in his sleep during the night of Feb. 26–7.
In memoriam: Elias Chaboud
Dr. Elias Cheboud (1959–2010) was a remarkable colleague and friend who died very suddenly on Dec. 12 while working outside Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, doing what he loved: working for peace alongside colleagues from around the globe. A memorial service for colleagues, alumni, family and friends took place on Dec. 20 at the Interfaith Chapel.

Former Lieutenant Governor of British Columbia David See-Chai Lam—one of the University of Victoria's greatest friends and an outstanding citizen of both British Columbia and Canada—died on Nov. 22 at the age of 87.
In memoriam: Shelly Waskiewich
With great sadness we announce the loss of Shelly Waskiewich after her courageous battle with cancer. She passed away on Sept. 5, after a year of fighting a very aggressive cancer.
